I donβt think they are mentioned in the original series. I definitely understand that...Thanks for that, Sue. I definitely understand that momentum idea. When I'm writing regularly, it's easy to turn up the next day and write. If I haven't written anything on my novel for a month (or maybe two months? Or three?), it's so much harder to get in the zone. Thanks for the reminder about making those small consistent goals.

And although I have watched all of the episodes of the original Star Trek (we have the box sets!), I'm not as familiar with the Borg. That hive idea was used (sort of) with the Wraith in Stargate Atlantis. It's the only movie that really allowed Troi to do what she's good at as a character, it gave Picard an emotional character arc, and the crash on Viridian III is still one of the most visually spectacular sequences in any Star Trek movie. (plus, how can you not love Kirk and Picard meeting each other)Adam David Collingshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18072000680990534407noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2208627029605402728.post-64444553709388562622021-11-08T13:08:55.714+10:002021-11-08T13:08:55.714+10:00I've been pushing against some resistance this...I've been pushing against some resistance this last week as I've started NaNoWriMo. I'm really out of the habbit of writing, as all my time these days has been taken up with content marketing activities such as podcasts and youtube videos. I've got important editing to do, but I'm finding that taking a month just to actually write something is getting me back into that world. Some days it's hard, but I will not let the Borg Queen win. I think I'm mostly struggling with the juggling act of life issues, Indie Pub requirements and other work requirements but, as that crazy meteor shower settles, I'll be taking on board your resistance theory tactics with respect to nailing my back cover blurb, not to mention revisiting other languishing works-in-progress.

ps: Star Trek fan (at all levels and versions) too.Mazzy Adamshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03945841786696357456noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2208627029605402728.post-63281654512936314912021-11-08T11:12:24.967+10:002021-11-08T11:12:24.967+10:00Thanks so much for this post! But I loved your use of physics images, particularly the idea of inertia just needing a gentle push (tiny goals, permission to write badly) to get things moving, but that once that pressure is no longer applied, everything will naturally stop. I find the longer I stop, the harder it is to get pushing again because all the momentum has left.

I think I need to set more realistic goals until I get that momentum back again.

(Also, 'Generations' was my favourite ST movie π.)Adam Hickeyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01614392848700793354noreply@blogger.com
